Hey everyone! Recently I stepped outside the box and tried a new form of exercise called pole fitness. Many people associate swinging on a pole with strippers and strip clubs. Interestingly enough, pole fitness has been around for a long time and is actually considered a sport! Click Here to see Oona Kivela, Winner of the 1st Pole Dance World Cup perform. Now that you watched that, I hope it helped you be a little more open minded about this form of fitness if you weren't already :) Now back to the story...
I went with a few of my girlfriends on a Saturday night to a private pole fitness party. We had an hour of instruction and learned basic moves that we used to create a performance at the end. The instructor made it fun by having us introduce ourselves, state an alter ego name (mine was Karma), and then doing a flirty pose. She then showed us several moves and worked with us all individually to ensure we mastered them. We all left the party tired, excited and looking forward to doing it again.
Now I know a lot of people may think that there is no way that swinging on a pole can equate to a substantial workout but trust me, you will be sweating bullets and be very sore (and have a bruise or two) the next day! I have honestly gained more respect for exotic pole dancers because they make it look effortless when in reality it takes a lot of strength and endurance. So kudos to all the ladies who have mastered some moves and look amazing while doing it!
I encourage everyone to try this form of fitness at least once. It doesn't require you to be very fit or athletic either. I think this is a great option for individuals who are looking for a fun and unique way to burn calories. If you want to give it a try just Google or Yelp a studio location near you. Depending on the studio, you have the option to do a private pole dance party to mix it up with friends, pole dance drop-in lessons, as well as other forms of fitness classes such as zumba.
So go ahead and Indulge in Pole Fitness!
